My role as the coach...

We're all familiar with the idea of the sports coach. That's the person with the stopwatch, giving orders and taking people to the limit in order to get the best from them. But why is it that sportspeople and athletes use coaches? Why is it that even those at the pinnacle of their professions still feel the need for someone to help them? The answer is, of course, that there is always room for improvement. For those just starting out there may be many areas to work on, but even for those at the top of their game, things can still get better.

And so it is in business. The Sunday Times Business section remarked in a feature that 'Coaches can make you a real superhero', reporting that senior executives say that spending just a few sessions with a coach has a real impact.

I've worked with many business owners to help them to get more out of their business - improved financial performance, more time to manage the business and enjoy life outside it, and a more effective team capable of making sure that the business runs even when they're not there. My clients have learned how to build bigger and better businesses and, more importantly, they've learned to get more of what they want out of life .

My aim is to make a difference. Like helping people to regain their direction, purpose and enthusiasm, free up their time and take control of their business. Like encouraging them to set and achieve higher financial targets. Like highlighting the importance of monitoring the performance of their business and putting a value on their time. Like helping people to communicate better, work more effectively and find and serve customers better.

I provide those vital ingredients that many people at the top of a business need - someone to talk to and build their business with, a knowledgeable advisor, and someone to be accountable to for the things they know need doing but somehow never get completed.

My story.

I've made my career in professional services, and worked in countries as far apart as Finland and Indonesia helping organisations to plan for and introduce change and improvement. I've met many people in many different businesses across many different cultures.

I took the decision in 2002 to apply my skills and experience in a business of my own, and now I help others to create enjoyment and success in their business lives. I enjoy the variety of meeting different business situations with different people and different challenges - it's what I do best. I have the satisfaction of helping businesses and their owners to be much more successful, as well the enjoyment of working in the local business community.

I believe that "no-one ever looked back on their life wishing they'd spent more time in the office". My philosophy is very much about achieving a healthy balance between work and life.
